Officials (MacRobertson Shield 2026)

Phil Cordingley
Tournament Director
Phil Cordingley is a veteran of the croquet world, with over 40 years of accomplishments both on the lawn and in the smoke filled committee rooms of the CA and CqE. This will be the fifth occasion he has Directed a WCF World Championship.

Appearances on the lawn restricted almost totally these days to assisting with development at Hampstead Heath CC where he is a founder member, he is more likely to be found pedalling his bike around Britain, Europe, Infinity and beyond.

Mike Town
Tournament Manager
Mike first played croquet on a rugby pitch at school in Bradford, but apart from a few games while a student on London, did not play regularly for another ten years.

His job as an IT consultant has enabled him to play in tournaments not only in the UK, but also in the USA, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg and Switzerland, as well as regular trips to South Africa.

He played in the AC World Championship in New Zealand in 2018 and the USA in 2025.

His managing career started in the early 1990s. Since then he has run tournaments at Guildford, Roehampton, East Dorset, Budleigh Salterton and his home club, Woking.

He was Tournament Manager for the AC World Championships centred on Surbiton in 2013 and Hurlingham in 2023, and the GC World Championships based at Southwick in 2019, 2022 and the Women’s in 2023.

Ian Vincent
Tournament Referee
Ian Vincent has refereed MacRobertson Shield matches in all four of the competing countries, having first done so in 1996.

He was Tournament Referee when it was last held in England, in 2010, and was a member of the WCF Committee that prepared the 7th edition of the AC Laws.

He expects to start by officiating for the lower tiers at his home club, Nottingham, before coming down to Southwick, where he first played a tournament in 1972, and Surbiton, where he is a far country member, for the final two pairs of tests. So he should know where the hoop buckets are kept.

Jeff Dawson
Tournament Referee
Born in 1956, Jeff is married with two grown-up sons. Originally a software engineer and project manager, he left to run the CA’s on-line shop which he did for 7 years before taking early retirement. He then worked for 10 years as a volunteer with Citizens Advice.

Jeff has been active on the CA council, serving as Chairman for 2 years as well as on the marketing, publishing, ICT, Laws and International committees at various times. He was responsible for the recent membership structure changes, and helped with the database project which implemented them. He is also an AC referee, is currently chair of the CqE AC laws committee, and periodically runs laws courses to train new referees.

Jeff plays mostly Association croquet, although he has dabbled with Golf Croquet a little. Jeff lives in Bournemouth and is a member of the East Dorset Croquet Club. He has been playing croquet for over 45 years, and has played in the President’s cup (for the top 8 available players) several times, and has won the Chairman’s Salver (for the second 8) three times.
