Our History
Surbiton Croquet Club was initially founded in 1896 near its current site in Berrylands, but did not reopen after the end of World War Two. It was re-established on its present site in 1985 by Derek Capron, Lionel Wharrad and others, with play restarting in 1986, meaning it is celebrating its 40th reopening anniversary this year. Some of the club's founder members are still active.
Surbiton prides itself on a relaxed atmosphere, excellent lawns, a warm welcome with great food and drink, and offering croquet of all standards from world class to entirely social. We have hosted World Championships in both AC and GC before, and are very much looking forward to hosting the Mac again this year.
The club has seven excellent lawns and a clubhouse. Limited parking is available onsite (players only during the Mac), with free and plentiful onstreet parking in adjacent roads for spectators and officials. Local traffic wardens can be officious - make sure you obey parking restrictions and do not let any part of your car protrude beyond the white lines.
Many croquet players stay at the Chessington Tolworth Travelodge, or the Premier Inn Tolworth, both of which are relatively cheap, and within a 15-20 minute walk. Other options are avilable - see AirBnB or TripAdvisor.

Using London Public Transport
Use TFL's journey planner: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/
By train:
From Gatwick, train to Clapham Junction, then change for trains to Surbiton. From Heathrow, it's difficult - best bet is the SL7 bus to New Malden, then the train to Surbiton. Surbiton is in Zone 6 on the main line from Waterloo to Clapham Junction, Guildford, Basingstoke and Portsmouth so the trains are frequent. Journey times from Waterloo range from 17 minutes (fast) to 25 minutes (stopping).
The Club is about a mile from Surbiton station and can be reached:
By foot:
Exit the south side (back) of the station (to your right at the top of the stairs from the platform) and on leaving the station proceed straight ahead up South Bank to the Ewell Road (A240). Turn right and head south along this road for about half a mile until just before the traffic lighted junction as the road flattens out at the foot of the hill. Turn left here into Hollyfield Road, at the end of which cross King Charles Road into Alexandra Drive opposite. The Club is about 250m down this road on the right hand side.
By bus:
281 services leave from opposite Waitrose (across the road from Surbiton station's main entrance); alight at the Hollyfield Road stop, just a five minute walk from the Club (see map for details).
By taxi:
There is a taxi rank in the station forecourt. Uber is also possible. The club is about one and a half miles from the station.
By car:
From the A3: leave the A3 at the Tolworth/A240 junction (NB: there is no eastbound exit at the Hook/A243 junction) and proceed north along Tolworth Broadway. Take the A3210 and turn right at Hollyfield Road immediately after the traffic lights. At the end of Hollyfield make a quick right/left into Alexandra Road. The Club is about 250m along Alexandra Drive on the right.
From the north: pass through Surbiton on the A240 and turn left just before the Royal Oak traffic lights (about ¾ mile from the bridge over the railway) into Hollyfield Road and proceed as for 'by foot' above.
